I come from a humble family, I was able to do many things thanks to my parents because they were practically my volunteer employees they worked to pay EVERYTHING I did.
My dad has always said that I am his greatest investment since I was born without any economical gain, until I had use of reason; then, I got hold of the reins and continued myself with the project with my parent's support.
All my life I have assisted an international private school and this not cheap, so we reached a point where I really needed to apply for a scholarship, to help my parents with the bills.
The school needed my curriculum to give me the scholarship, so I wrote, when I was 14, more than 1000 words of why I should get given the scholarship, they finally did give it to me, and they can't imagine how thankful I am, and how helpful it has been. I obviously had to continue doing tasks to maintain the scholarship, so I helped students and families integrate into the community, helped parents and students with any doubs they had about the school and/or its functioning, and created a sailing club led by and for the students.
I have recieved the scholarship for 5 years already.
I have garnered numerous accolades and diplomas in recognition of my dedication and achievements across various subjects in Prize Days at my school. Notably, my efforts have been rewarded with prizes in disciplines such as Chemistry, Biology, and French. Through my commitment and hard work, I have excelled in these areas, demonstrating proficiency and passion for each subject. These achievements not only highlight my academic prowess but also reflect my enthusiasm for continuous learning and pursuit of excellence.
Subject preferences are a very important part to decide where you want to direct your academic and laboral future, I personally prefere the scientific part of life in general, but also subjects such as:
The favourite...
Chemistry, without a doubt my favourite subject, combines all past, present & future, it is in fact the future of humanity. I love chemistry because it envolves everything arround us, everything we see is chemistry everything we touch is chemistry, in conclusion EVERYTHING is Chemistry.
Chemistry in Biotechnology and genetics:
Chemistry plays a fundamental role in biotechnology and genetics, providing the foundation for understanding and manipulating biological systems at the molecular level. In biotechnology, chemistry is essential for techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, which involves the manipulation and modification of DNA molecules to produce desired traits in organisms. This includes processes like polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for amplifying specific DNA sequences and DNA sequencing methods for analyzing genetic information. Chemistry also underpins the development of biotechnological products such as enzymes, pharmaceuticals, and biofuels through techniques like enzyme engineering, chemical synthesis, and fermentation.
In genetics, chemistry is crucial for understanding the chemical basis of heredity and gene expression. It helps elucidate the structure and function of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and proteins, the molecules responsible for transmitting genetic information and carrying out cellular processes. Chemical techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry are used to analyze biomolecules and study their interactions. Moreover, chemical principles are applied in fields like pharmacogenomics, where drugs are designed based on an individual's genetic makeup, and in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic diseases.
Overall, chemistry provides the tools and concepts necessary for advancing research and applications in biotechnology and genetics, enabling scientists to unravel the complexities of living organisms and develop innovative solutions to address various biological challenges.
What changed my perception of Biology...
When I was in year 8, grade 7, I didn't even like Biology because I thought it wasn't interesting, I just took no notice of biology as a subject that I would chose in future careers or anything. In year 8, grade 7, we had to chose what four subjects we wanted to study for GCSE's, I personally chose: ICT, Chemistry, French & Economics. In year 9, grade 8, I, at first quite liked the subjects I had chosen, but then I realised ICT was not really for me, so I needed to chose another subject to change it for ICT, so I chose to try Biology, a few weeks after I joined, they had an exam about the whole of year 9, grade 8, (which I hadn't done as a Biology student) but anyway I decided to take the exam and had the 3rd best grade in my class. From then I have loved to study biology and to learn about all of the biotic concepts of life.
Biology with a focus on biotechnology and genetics:
It delves into the study of living organisms and their genetic makeup, with an emphasis on the application of biological principles to practical purposes. Biotechnology involves the manipulation of biological systems and organisms to develop products and technologies that benefit society. This includes techniques such as genetic engineering, where genes are modified or transferred between organisms, and bioprocessing, which uses living cells or their components to produce valuable substances like pharmaceuticals or biofuels. Genetics, on the other hand, focuses on the inheritance and variation of traits in organisms, exploring how genes are passed down from one generation to the next and how they influence an organism's characteristics. By integrating biotechnology and genetics, scientists can develop innovative solutions to address challenges in fields such as medicine, agriculture, and environmental conservation. This interdisciplinary approach has led to advancements such as genetically modified crops, gene therapy for treating genetic disorders, and techniques for DNA sequencing and analysis, revolutionizing our understanding of biology and its practical applications.
